Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Yokum knew for a long time that she wanted to go into the medical field because she liked the idea of improving people’s well-being. She also wanted to work with her hands, so dentistry seemed like a natural fit, especially when she realized that she would get to build a strong relationship with each patient.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Yokum attended West Virginia University for both her undergraduate and graduate education and completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2010 after early admittance to the dental school. During her time at WVU, she was awarded for her research and interest in dental care for special needs patients.
After graduating, Dr. Yokum accepted a position at E.A. Hawse Health Center in Baker, West Virginia. She practiced there for over four years before moving back to Pennsylvania to be near family. She has also worked for the SMILE program and was a part-time faculty member at WVU, teaching and supervising dental students in their student clinic. Today, she has certifications to provide laser dentistry, BOTOX, dermal fillers, and Invisalign.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
