What is BOTOX?
Botulinum toxin, or BOTOX, is an injectable solution that is used to relax overworked muscles that result in aesthetic issues like wrinkles and fine lines. The uses of BOTOX are vast, but the treatments our office focuses on the most include treating forehead, eye and mouth wrinkles, tension headaches, facial pain, and clenching and grinding of the teeth. This is especially important in dentistry because grinding and clenching can destroy the teeth and any dental work a patient has had.
Who is a Good Candidate for BOTOX?
Candidates for BOTOX meet with Dr. Yokum for an initial consultation to determine if this treatment is the right fit. Our team typically recommends this treatment for patients looking to address the following issues:
- Crow’s feet
- Glabellar lines (between the eyebrows)
- Forehead lines
- Lines that form around the lips (often caused by smoking)
- Frequent migraines
- Jaw pain caused by bruxism
The Benefits of BOTOX
Apart from the aesthetic improvements that BOTOX can provide, it is also a great way to alleviate pain throughout the head and jaw, especially if bruxism or migraines exist. This injectable solution is viewed as a much less invasive form of treatment as opposed to a facelift or other surgical procedures. Instead of spending weeks or months recovering at home, you can return to work the same day. BOTOX delivers results within two weeks that can last several months before requiring follow-up treatment.
Dermal Filler Treatment
Dermal fillers are used to replace the collagen that our bodies naturally lose over time. The body loses about 1% of dermal collagen per year, and this number usually increases once you reach the age of 50. The fillers our office uses are temporary and composed of a naturally occurring substance in the body called hyaluronic acid. These fillers typically last around 6-12 months before needing to be replenished.
